Paragon and Renegade

Both Paragon and Renegade are “heroic” in a broader sense, but they represent different kinds of heroism: Captain Picard versus Dirty Harry. Gaining one does not reduce the other: a 5/5 Paragon/Renegade character has both types of heroism in them. Character’s can start as 2/0, 1/1, or 0/2.

Duty, honor, compassion, loyalty, restraint. Trying to be “objective” and setting aside personal beliefs. Willing to follow orders that you doubt or personally disagree with. Deferring to authority, or exercising authority. Generally comes with a focus on the long-term.

Independence, ruthlessness, impulse, rebelliousness, making people pay for what they’ve done, making sure good people don’t get screwed no matter what the system or the law says. Doing what is right, not what others will approve of. Generally comes with a focus on the here and now.
